The Punjab government has announced plans to build a brand-new airport in Lahore, aiming to meet the city’s growing travel needs and ease congestion at the existing Allama Iqbal International Airport.

According to officials, the Ravi Urban Development Authority (RUDA) has identified a potential site for the project near Ravi City, close to the M-3 Motorway.

The location is roughly 30 kilometers from the current airport, offering an ideal spot for future expansion and development.

The project is still in the consultation and planning phase, with discussions underway about construction costs, funding models, and partnerships. Authorities are exploring various financing options, including public-private collaborations, to ensure the project’s long-term sustainability.

Officials believe the new airport will play a vital role in reducing air traffic pressure on Lahore’s existing airport, which handles millions of passengers each year.

It is also expected to create thousands of new jobs, boost tourism, and attract both local and foreign investment to the province.

While no official timeline or budget has been shared yet, the project is being seen as part of the broader vision to modernize Punjab’s infrastructure and enhance regional connectivity.

If approved, this new airport could become one of Lahore’s most significant developments in the coming years.
