The latest report from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) shows that Punjab has the largest number of donkeys among all provinces, with a population of 2.403 million. Sindh comes second with 1.081 million, followed by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in third place with 782,000.
Balochistan has the lowest provincial count, with 630,000 donkeys, while Islamabad records the smallest overall number at just 4,000.
The report highlights the continuing importance of donkeys in rural economies across Pakistan. In many villages and remote areas, donkeys remain a practical and affordable means of transportation, carrying goods, and assisting with agricultural work.
They are especially valuable in regions where modern or mechanized transport is limited or too costly for the local population.
