Record-Breaking Rain! Lahore Records 136mm in 8 Hours

Lahore recently saw a record-breaking monsoon rain that brought heavy downpours and caused major problems in the city. In just eight hours, 136mm of rain fell, flooding low-lying areas and badly affecting daily life.

Some areas were hit even harder — Nishtar Town received 178mm of rain, while Iqbal Town got 175mm. Experts are calling it a “century rain” because it is one of the heaviest monsoon rains in recent history, showing how strong this year’s monsoon season is.

Many well-known parts of the city, like Lakshmi Chowk, Samanabad, and Gulberg, were underwater due to severe waterlogging. Streets turned into ponds, making it very difficult for people to travel. Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) teams are working day and night to drain the water from roads and streets, but the heavy rain has made their work very challenging.

This was only the first monsoon spell, and the second one has already started and is expected to continue until July 13. Due to this situation, the authorities have asked people to be extra careful. They have advised citizens to stay away from old, weak buildings that might collapse in the rain and to avoid touching or going near exposed electrical wires to prevent any accidents.

Citizens are also being asked to report blocked drains and flooded streets so that the WASA teams can respond quickly. People hope that the city will be able to handle the next round of rain better and that the damage can be reduced.
