Authorities in Karachi have fined 4,345 retailers a total of Rs. 45 million for overcharging customers during Ramazan. This is a significant increase compared to last year when 3,500 retailers were fined Rs. 31 million.

As part of the crackdown, officials sealed 161 shops and arrested 155 profiteers. Despite these strict measures, essential food items such as meat, flour, and fruits are still being sold at higher prices than the government’s fixed rates. Many customers have complained that shopkeepers continue to ignore official price lists, making it difficult for them to buy daily necessities at fair rates.

Officials claim that this year’s efforts to control prices have been stronger than before. However, market rates remain unstable, and many people are still struggling with high costs. Buyers say that despite the government’s actions, they are not seeing much difference in prices at local markets.

The price control teams are continuing their inspections, hoping to bring more shops into compliance. Authorities urge the public to report cases of overpricing so that further action can be taken. Meanwhile, consumers remain frustrated, as they are forced to pay extra for essential goods, even during the holy month of Ramazan.
