Saudi authorities have approved the organization of marriage contracts at Islam’s two holiest sites, Mecca and Medina. This initiative, launched by the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah, aims to enhance the experience of pilgrims and visitors by allowing nuptial contracts to take place at the Grand Mosque in Mecca and the Prophet’s Mosque in Medina.

Marriage official Musaed Al Jabri stated that conducting marriage ceremonies at these sacred sites is permissible in Islam. He cited the example of Prophet Mohammed (PBUH), who officiated a marriage for a companion in a mosque.

Al Jabri explained that holding marriage contracts at the Prophet’s Mosque has long been a tradition in Medina, especially in homes with limited space.

The initiative encourages companies to develop creative ways to arrange marriage events while respecting the sanctity of the sites. Ceremonies should be conducted in a way that does not disturb worshippers, and attendees are asked to avoid excessive food or drinks to maintain the sacred atmosphere.

This step not only adds a unique dimension to the visitor experience but also preserves the spiritual significance of these holy places. The initiative aligns with Saudi Arabia’s efforts to enhance services for pilgrims while upholding the cultural and religious values of the sacred sites.
