Scientists at a California-based company called REMspace have shared a surprising new development in dream research. They say that for the first time, two people were able to communicate with each other while both were asleep and lucid dreaming.
The experiment took place on September 24 and involved two participants who were already experienced in lucid dreaming. While they slept, both were connected to special systems that monitored their brain activity in real time, especially during REM sleep, the stage when most dreaming happens.
When the first participant entered a lucid dream, researchers sent a made-up word, “Zhilak,” through earbuds. The dreamer heard the word inside the dream and repeated it out loud while still asleep.
A few minutes later, the second participant, who was also in a lucid dream, received the same word. She repeated “Zhilak” during her dream and later confirmed the experience after waking up.
According to REMspace, this experiment could be the first recorded example of two-way communication between people while dreaming. However, the researchers say the findings still need to be independently verified by other scientists.
