Sheikh Mohammed issues law on ribbons, orders, medals and badges

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE, in his capacity as Ruler of Dubai, issued Law No.12 for 2024 regarding ribbons, orders, medals and badges of Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
Ribbons, orders, medals and badges are awarded to those with great achievements and services, individuals, institutions and companies with distinguished role in charitable, humanitarian and voluntary work and distinguished scientists and researchers in specialised scientific fields in appreciation of their significant contributions in the fields of culture, sports, arts and creativity.
According to the law, the following ribbons, orders, medals and badges are being introduced in Dubai: The Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Ribbon, the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Order, the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Medal and the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Badge. New ribbons, orders, medals or badges or other categories, types or forms of honouring may also be created.
Pursuant to this law, an organisational unit to be called the General Secretariat for the Medals of Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum will be created in the Executive Office of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum and will be affiliated to the organisational structure of the Executive Office.
The law stipulates that by decision of Sheikh Mohammed, ribbons, orders, medals or badges may be awarded to any individual, institution or company other than the individuals or entities indicated in the previous categories.
According to the law, ribbons, orders, medals and badges are awarded on national occasions and official celebrations or during official visits made by His Highness Ruler of Dubai, Crown Prince or any of the Deputy Rulers outside the country.
They may also be awarded during visits made by the individuals scheduled to be honoured in Dubai or during any special occasion as needed.
The law will be published in the Official Gazette and will take effect from the date it is published.
