In the new 2025–26 provincial budget, the Sindh government has announced major investments to improve public transport in Karachi. More than Rs. 50 billion has been set aside for two of the city’s biggest mass transit projects.

Rs. 27 billion will go toward the construction of the Yellow Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, while Rs. 26 billion has been allocated for the Red Line BRT. These two projects are part of a larger effort to improve travel for millions of Karachi residents who rely on public transport every day.

The goal is to reduce travel time, make transportation more reliable, and provide a cleaner, safer commuting option. Once completed, both BRT lines are expected to ease traffic congestion and help lower pollution levels in the city.

Overall, Rs. 110 billion has been proposed for six key development projects in Karachi. Out of this, Rs. 97 billion will come from foreign funding sources, showing strong international support for Karachi’s urban development.

These projects reflect the government’s focus on modernizing infrastructure and solving long-standing issues in the city’s transport system. With a growing population and increasing pressure on roads, the government aims to create a better-connected and more efficient public transport network.

Officials believe that these steps will not only help daily commuters but also boost the local economy by creating jobs and encouraging more investments in the region.

The budget announcement is seen as a major move toward reshaping Karachi’s future, with a focus on smart, sustainable urban development.
