Sri Lanka shares extend rally into 2026; post 3.6% weekly gain

Sri Lankan shares closed higher on the first trading day of the New Year, extending their winning run to gain 3.6% for the week ended Friday.

The CSE All Share index climbed 1.06% to 22,864.08, backed by broad-based gains in its seventh straight session of rise.

The benchmark logged its first weekly gains in three on Friday. Its annual gains in 2025 – the third straight year of rise – was softer on-year.

On Friday, Asia Capital and Industrial Asphalts were the top two percentage gainers on the CSE All Share, rising 25% each.

Trading volume on the index rose to 133 million shares from 122.8 million on Wednesday. Markets were closed on Thursday.

The equity market’s turnover rose to 5.17 billion Sri Lankan rupees ($16.7 million) from 4.65 billion rupees in the previous session, according to exchange data.

Foreign investors were net sellers, offloading stocks worth 234 million rupees, while domestic investors were net buyers, purchasing shares worth 5.02 billion rupees, the data showed.
