Sri Lankan shares end lower; post first weekly gain in five

Sri Lankan shares closed lower on Friday, but ended the week higher to log their first gain in five weeks.

The CSE All-Share index dropped nearly 0.2% to 21,375.73. On Thursday, the index dropped 2.1%.

Conglomerates Amana Takaful Life Plc and Office Equipment Plc were the biggest losers on the CSE All-Share index, falling 19.6% and 8.2%, respectively.

Trading volume fell to 145.5 million shares from 176.3 million in the previous session.

The equity market’s turnover declined to 2.67 billion Sri Lankan rupees ($8.5 million), compared with 3.27 billion rupees in the previous session, according to exchange data.

Foreign investors were net sellers of shares worth 40 million rupees in the equity market, while domestic investors were net buyers of shares worth 2.64 billion rupees, data showed.
