Supreme Court Fines Man Rs. 5 Lakh for Delaying his Sister’s Inheritance

The Supreme Court of Pakistan has issued a strong and clear ruling in a case involving a man who intentionally delayed his sister’s inheritance. The court decided to fine him Rs. 5 lakh, stating that no one has the right to hold back a woman’s lawful share.

According to the judgment, keeping a woman away from what she is entitled to is not only against Pakistan’s Constitution but also goes against the teachings of Islam.

The court explained that inheritance is not just a legal matter; it is a right that has been clearly defined in religion. Trying to block or postpone this right is considered an unlawful act and is seen as going against the will and guidance given in Islamic principles.

The judges stressed that such actions harm families and create injustice, especially when women are forced to wait for something that already belongs to them.

The Supreme Court further ordered that the fine collected from the man will be divided among the rightful legal heirs. This ensures that some compensation reaches those who were affected by the delay.

Along with the decision, the court highlighted a broader issue faced by many women in the country: the difficulty of claiming their inheritance due to pressure, fear, or dependency on male relatives.

To address this, the court urged the state to set up proper systems and support mechanisms. These would help women access their inheritance easily and safely, without having to rely on others or face unnecessary delays.

This ruling sends a strong message about equality, justice, and the protection of women’s rights in Pakistan.
