LAKKI MARWAT: Police thwarted a terrorist attack on Shaheed Haibat Ali Khan police station in Darra Pezu town of Lakki Marwat district on Friday night.

An official said that the police station came under attack at around 12.45am, prompting the cops deployed there to retaliate.

He said the assailants struck with light and heavy weapons in an attempt to breach the building, but their nefarious plan was foiled with an effective response by the policemen.

“The law enforcers also used advanced and heavy weapons to repulse the attack,” he said, adding that the policemen remained safe during an intense exchange of fire that forced the attackers to flee.

The official said that the police launched a search in the nearby mountains to trace the attackers.

It was the second attack on Shaheed Haibat Ali Khan police station located in the congested area along the Peshawar-Karachi Highway over the last one week.

Last week, the terrorists launched several attacks on police stations and posts in Lakki Marwat and Bannu districts.

BODY FOUND: The body of a teenage boy was found in the forest near Naserkhel area in Serai Naurang town of Lakki Marwat on Saturday.

Police said they were informed about the body dumped in the forest locally called ‘Darga’.

They said a police party was dispatched to the area to collect the body and shift it to hospital.

A video also went viral on social media showing the body of the boy with one of his hands tied with a rope.

Local residents identified the deceased as Misbahullah, a resident of Subhani Kallay, and said he had been killed with a firearm.

The murder sparked protest in the town as relatives and area people took the body to the Naurang city, placed it on the GT Road and closed it to traffic.

The protesters alleged the police had picked Misbahullah near the hospital in Naurang town and the next day his body was found dumped in the forest.

A relative said he approached police when someone informed him that Misbah was in their custody.

“But they (police) expressed ignorance and later a video appeared on social media showing the body lying in the forest,” he said.

The protesters demanded registration of an FIR against the police officials nominated by the family of the deceased.

The protesters dispersed when police officials held successful negotiations with elders.

Separately, a man was killed and another injured in an attack in Wazir Kallay area of Lakki.

Police said Mohammad Farooq, 50, lost his life and Kashif, 20, was injured.

The body and the injured were shifted to the District Headquarters Hospital, Tajazai. Police said a dispute over cutting of trees was the motive behind the shooting.

Meanwhile, four people, including three policemen, were injured in a road accident in Serai Naurang town on Saturday.

A police official said a car with three policemen and a suspect onboard skidded off the road and overturned near the Hameedabad area.

He said the injured included SHO Shakil Khan and constables Mustafa and Kabir Shah, and arrested individual, Walibat.

The injured were taken to the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital.

In a separate development, Rescue 1122 firefighters extinguished a fire that erupted along the wildlife park near Kurrum Bridge.
