Traders across Pakistan are staging protests against high taxes and utility bills.

Ajmal Baloch, the President of the All Pakistan Traders’ Association, stated that there are no ongoing discussions with the government and confirmed that markets nationwide are closed.

Kashif Chaudhry, President of Anjuman-e-Tajiran, criticized the government’s efforts, calling them insincere. He stressed the need for lower electricity rates and a review of the Independent Power Producers (IPP) agreements.

In response, FBR Chairman Rashid Mahmood Langrial assured that the government will address legitimate demands.

However, he confirmed that the Tajir Dost Scheme, which provides certain tax benefits, will continue. Langrial also highlighted that Pakistan is unique in not imposing taxes on retail and wholesale transactions, emphasizing the need for fair taxation policies.
