Two die in Shangla after inhaling toxic fumes

SHANGLA: Two labourers died in their sleep after inhaling toxic fumes from an electricity generator they were running at an ice cream-making unit in Martung Bazaar in Puran subdivision here on Thursday.

According to Aloch police station’s police official the residents of Martung brought three persons from Martung area to Pir Muhammad Khan Shaheed hospital in Aloch on Thursday morning.

Police said the victims were moved to the hospital emergency but unfortunately two of them had already already died. The police said that both were pronounced dead and later their bodies were handed over to their families. However, the third labourer survived and was shifted to a hospital in Swat for further treatment.

Police officials identified the dead as Mohammad Maaz and Abdul Wali of Martung and the hospitalised one as Fazalullah.

Hospital official said the deceased Mohammad Maaz and Fazalullah were brothers and below the age of 16.They said condition of Fazalullah was also critical.

Local residents said that they had been working as street vendors, selling ice cream. Local authorities, however, have started an investigation into the incident.

Most of the parts of Shangla district have been experiencing massive power outages and the business community as well as those who can afford it run generators or install solar system to fulfil their needs.
