UAE Sets Minimum Salary Requirement for Visit Visa

UAE has introduced new conditions for residents who want to sponsor visitors, linking the process to a minimum monthly income. The move is part of broader reforms to the country’s visa system which is designed to make procedures clearer and more aligned with the UAE’s long-term economic goals.

According to the updated rules, residents must earn at least Dh4,000 per month to sponsor their immediate family members. For second- or third-degree relatives, the income requirement rises to Dh8,000 per month. Sponsoring friends now requires the highest salary threshold, set at Dh15,000 per month.

The changes were announced by the Federal Authority for Identity and Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP). Officials explained that these steps aim to balance transparency with economic diversification, while ensuring that sponsors are financially capable of supporting visitors during their stay.

In addition to salary-linked conditions, the UAE has also launched new visit visa categories. These include permits for professionals in artificial intelligence, cruise tourism, events and entertainment. A humanitarian residence permit has also been introduced, valid for one year with the option of renewal. Meanwhile, widows and divorced women can now apply for residence without a sponsor subject to specific terms.

Other adjustments include a business exploration visa for entrepreneurs and new conditions for truck drivers entering the UAE under goods transport companies.

Officials stressed that the reforms were based on global trends, community feedback and assessments of existing services. The changes, they noted, are expected to improve the quality of life in the UAE, strengthen trade and technology sectors and enhance the country’s global competitiveness.
