On August 25, 1989, Pakistan International Airline’s flight PK-404, a Fokker-F27 Friendship aircraft, departed from Gilgit airport en route to Islamabad. Onboard were 54 people, including five crew members. Shortly after takeoff, the plane mysteriously disappeared, leaving no trace behind and sparking widespread speculation.Despite extensive military search efforts in the rugged Himalayan region, no wreckage was ever discovered.

The last known communication from the flight was a routine radio call at 7:40 am, just a few minutes after it took off. This call provided no indication of trouble, making the plane’s sudden disappearance all the more puzzling. Now, decades later, the fate of flight PK-404 remains an unsolved mystery. The lack of closure has left the families of those on board with unanswered questions and lingering grief. The incident continues to be one of the most enduring and heartbreaking mysteries in Pakistan’s aviation history, with no definitive answers in sight.
