US President Donald Trump Announces 26% Tariff on India and 29% on Pakistan

US President Donald Trump has announced new trade tariffs, including a 29% tax on goods from Pakistan and a 26% tax on imports from India. The decision is part of his ongoing efforts to correct what he sees as unfair trade policies and balance trade between the US and other countries.

Trump explained that these tariffs were necessary to ensure fair trade. He argued that other nations place high taxes on American products, giving their own economies an unfair advantage. The new tariffs aim to make trade more balanced and protect American businesses.

One key reason for this move is the high taxes Pakistan places on American goods. According to Trump, Pakistan has been charging a 58% tariff on US products. In response, the US has decided to impose a 29% tariff on Pakistani goods entering America.

Despite the new tariffs, the US and Pakistan continue to have strong trade relations. In 2024, their total trade reached $7.3 billion. During that year, US exports to Pakistan increased by 4.4% to $2.1 billion, while imports from Pakistan also rose by 4.9%, reaching $5.1 billion.

Trade experts are closely watching how these new tariffs will affect businesses in both countries. Some believe they may lead to higher prices for consumers, while others think they could push both sides to negotiate better trade agreements. For now, businesses and governments will have to adjust to the new trade policies and their impact on the economy.
