The US has officially lifted sanctions on Syria, marking a major shift in its foreign policy. President Donald Trump signed an executive order removing restrictions to support Syria’s recovery after the removal of Bashar al-Assad from power.

According to the US Treasury Department, 518 Syrian individuals and organizations have been taken off the sanctions list. This move is expected to open the door for humanitarian aid, international trade, and investment, all aimed at helping Syria rebuild after years of conflict.

With sanctions now lifted, US businesses may be allowed to resume limited financial and commercial dealings in Syria. Officials say this decision will assist in restoring the economy and improving the living conditions of the Syrian people.

The US government said it will still monitor the situation closely to ensure that the country’s progress remains peaceful and fair. While some international observers welcomed the move, others have called for cautious optimism, urging continued focus on human rights and stability.

This marks a significant policy shift for Washington, signaling more openness to supporting recovery efforts in the Middle East after changes in leadership.
