Veteran Indian businessman Ram Buxani passed away in Dubai at the age of 83 on Sunday.
Buxani was a prominent figure in Dubai’s expat community.
He became a well-known figure in the Indian community after his role in influencing the Indian government to abolish estate duty in 1985.
Buxani, formerly the chairman of ITL Cosmos Group, arrived in Dubai by sea in November 1959 at the age of 18.
He started as an office assistant and became a business leader and community figure in the UAE.
Buxani also served as Chairman of the Indian High School, Dubai, from 2000 to 2004.
The-then President of India in 1983 presented the Shield of Honour to Buxani for his contributions to the community.
In 2004, he obtained a Ph.D. degree in International Business from Washington International University, an online institution.
Forbes Middle East selected him as one of the top Indian leaders of Middle East during 2014, 2016 and 2017, and awarded him its “Lifetime Achievement Award” in 2017.
