WhatsApp Adds Built-in Document Scanner to App in New Update

WhatsApp is working on a new feature that will let users scan documents directly through the app using their phone’s camera. This update is part of the latest WhatsApp beta for Android (version 2.25.19.21) and is currently available to selected beta testers via the Google Play Store.

The new option appears when you try to share a document. A new button labeled “Scan Document” opens the camera and gives a live preview on the screen. This helps users align the paper correctly to get a clear and high-quality scan, removing the need to use other apps for scanning.

Once the document is in place, users can choose between two capture options—automatic and manual. The automatic mode takes the picture when the document is fully visible and well-aligned, making it fast and easy. The manual mode is better when lighting conditions are not ideal or if you need to adjust the angle and framing yourself.

This feature is expected to be useful for people who often need to send scanned documents, such as ID cards, receipts, forms, or handwritten notes. It saves time and makes the process smoother by keeping everything within the WhatsApp app.

As of now, the feature is only available to beta users, but it may be rolled out to everyone soon if testing goes well.
