Traffic Police Lahore to Challan Motorcyclists Without Safety Rods Starting Feb 1

Lahore Traffic Police have announced that they will start issuing fines to motorcyclists who ride without safety rods from February 1. The announcement was made by CCPO Bilal Siddique Kamyana as part of efforts to improve public safety during the Basant season.

This step is part of the “Safe Basant” campaign, which focuses on protecting riders and pedestrians from injuries caused by stray kite strings. Sharp or metal-coated kite strings have previously caused serious accidents, especially for motorcyclists, and safety rods on bikes help reduce this risk by blocking the strings from hitting riders’ necks or faces.

To support the campaign, authorities have said that safety rods will be installed free of cost on up to one million motorcycles. For this purpose, around 100 installation camps will be set up across Lahore. While officials have confirmed the number of camps, they have not yet shared the exact locations or schedules, which are expected to be announced separately.

In addition to enforcing safety rods, the authorities have also introduced strict rules for Basant celebrations. These include limiting kite-flying to specific approved dates, regulating the sale and purchase of kites and strings, and enforcing a complete ban on aerial firing. Officials have warned that anyone found violating these rules will face legal action without exception.

The overall goal of these measures is to ensure that Basant is celebrated in a safer and more controlled manner, reducing accidents, injuries, and loss of life. Traffic police and other law enforcement agencies have urged the public to cooperate and follow the guidelines for their own safety and the safety of others.
