The Riyadh Metro, the largest public transport system in the Middle East and the world’s longest driverless train network, officially began operations on December 1. This state-of-the-art metro system spans 176 kilometers and includes 85 stations, making it a cornerstone of Saudi Arabia’s efforts to modernize urban transportation and reduce traffic congestion.
The metro aims to ease traffic in Riyadh by reducing congestion by 30%, offering residents and visitors a fast, efficient, and eco-friendly alternative to traditional transportation. The $35 billion project is a key component of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 initiative, which focuses on sustainable development and preparing for population growth.
