Punjab Announces New Rules for Vehicle Registration

The Punjab government has introduced important changes to the Motor Vehicles Ordinance 1965, allowing vehicles registered in other provinces to be re-registered in Punjab. This new policy will officially take effect next month, with all necessary rules and procedures already finalized by the authorities.

Previously, vehicle owners had to keep their original registration from the province where their vehicle was first registered. However, with this new policy, residents of Punjab who own vehicles registered in Sindh, Islamabad, or other provinces can now transfer their vehicle registration to Punjab.

Process for Re-Registration

According to excise officials, vehicle owners who wish to shift their registration to Punjab must first obtain a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from their respective Motor Registration Authority. This certificate ensures that the vehicle has no outstanding legal issues, fines, or ownership disputes before it is registered in a new province.

Lower Re-Registration Fees

One of the key benefits of this policy is that the re-registration fee in Punjab will be lower than the cost of a new vehicle registration. This makes the process more affordable for those who want to legally transfer their vehicle’s registration without the burden of high costs.

This change is expected to provide greater convenience to vehicle owners, allowing them to avoid complications related to inter-provincial vehicle transfers. It is also aimed at ensuring better record-keeping, compliance with local laws, and ease of access to vehicle-related services for Punjab residents.

With this new policy set to roll out soon, vehicle owners from across Pakistan who now reside in Punjab will have a simpler and more cost-effective way to register their vehicles under the Punjab jurisdiction.
