Heavy Rain Likely to Create Urban Flooding Across Sindh, PMD

The weather in Sindh is about to change as the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a forecast of moderate to heavy rainfall between September 7 and 11.

This rain is expected due to a low-pressure system that has formed in the Bay of Bengal and is now moving towards the region.

In Karachi, the PMD has warned that heavy showers may hit the city during this period, which could lead to urban flooding in low-lying areas.

The city, known for its poor drainage and traffic congestion during monsoon rains, often faces major challenges whenever intense downpours occur.

However, the department has also clarified that no major rainfall is expected in Karachi until September 5, giving the authorities some time to prepare.

The possibility of heavy rainfall brings both relief and concern. While rain can lower the temperature and provide much-needed water to the province, it also increases the risk of waterlogging, power outages, and flooding in many parts of Karachi.

In past years, heavy rains have caused severe disruptions to daily life, making roads impassable and damaging property.

Officials have urged citizens to remain cautious, especially during the predicted days of heavy rain. They are advised to avoid unnecessary travel, stay away from electricity poles and open drains, and keep emergency supplies ready at home.

Rescue teams and civic bodies have also been asked to stay on high alert to respond quickly in case of emergencies.

The coming week will test the city’s preparedness once again as Karachi braces for another spell of monsoon rains.
