Kalabagh Dam Vital for Pakistan’s Future, CM Gandapur as KP Flood Toll Hits 411

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has emphasized the importance of building the Kalabagh Dam, calling it crucial for the future of Pakistan.

He spoke about this while addressing the ongoing flood crisis, which has so far claimed 411 lives and caused widespread damage across the province.

In Islamabad, Gandapur stressed that national interest should come before provincial disagreements. He urged all provinces to cooperate and contribute to the construction of the dam, saying it is a project that benefits the entire country.

The Chief Minister highlighted that Pakistan’s lack of large dams has worsened the destruction caused by heavy rains and floods.

He pointed out that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has made progress in building smaller dams, which help reduce damage, but a project like Kalabagh is needed to manage water on a larger scale.

Gandapur also reviewed the ongoing relief efforts in the province. Priority has been given to providing compensation to families affected by the floods and restoring damaged infrastructure. He assured that the provincial government is working to help victims recover as quickly as possible.

Despite years of political debate and opposition over the Kalabagh Dam, the KP government has expressed readiness to share the responsibilities and costs of the project.

Gandapur reiterated that the dam is not just a provincial issue but a matter of national interest, essential to protect future generations from flood-related disasters and ensure water and energy security for Pakistan.
