Pakistan’s digital economy received a major boost as Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication Shaza Fatima Khawaja announced that Google has officially registered in Pakistan and plans to set up a local office soon.

As part of this collaboration, Chromebook manufacturing has already begun in Haripur, with an estimated annual production of 500,000 to 600,000 units. This marks a significant step toward localizing technology production, creating new job opportunities, and driving technology transfer nationwide.

The minister highlighted that this initiative aligns with the government’s goal of developing an export-oriented IT and manufacturing ecosystem, which will not only reduce import dependency but also make Pakistan a potential hub for regional tech exports.

In addition to hardware manufacturing, Google is working closely with Pakistan’s IT Ministry on several capacity-building initiatives, including AI training programs for youth. Discussions are also underway to establish Artificial Intelligence labs in collaboration with local universities and tech institutions.

Minister Shaza Fatima emphasized that such collaborations represent a transformative opportunity for Pakistan’s digital growth, enabling local talent to contribute to global technology value chains.

With this step, Pakistan joins the growing list of countries producing Google Chromebooks locally, strengthening its position in the global tech manufacturing landscape and signaling a new era of innovation, employment, and digital empowerment.
