Unidentified thieves stole six batteries from the Rescue 1122 flood warning system located at the Nullah Leh bridge in Pirwadhai, Rawalpindi, late Sunday night. These batteries were an essential part of the system, which plays a vital role in warning both authorities and residents about rising water levels during the monsoon season.

The theft caused the entire flood alert system to go offline. According to officials, the thieves broke into the control room by damaging its lock and took away batteries valued at around Rs60,000. These batteries had been in use since 2006 and were critical for keeping the system functional.

Rizwan Ahmed, the flood control in-charge, reported the incident and filed a First Information Report (FIR) at the Ganjmandi Police Station. The case has been registered under Sections 380 and 457 of the Pakistan Penal Code, which deal with theft and breaking in during the night.

Authorities are now investigating the incident, as the stolen equipment directly affects public safety, especially during the ongoing monsoon rains.
