CM Maryam Confirms Removal of Illegal Hotels & Encroachments in Murree

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has announced strict action against illegal hotels and unlawful encroachments in Murree, aiming to improve regulation and protect the popular hill station from unplanned development and environmental damage.

According to officials, the chief minister has directed the relevant departments to conduct a comprehensive survey of hotels, guesthouses, and commercial structures operating without proper approval. Authorities have been instructed to identify buildings that violate construction laws, safety standards, or environmental regulations, and to take legal action against those found operating illegally.

CM Maryam emphasized that Murree is one of Punjab’s most important tourist destinations and must be preserved for future generations. She said unchecked construction and illegal encroachments have not only damaged the natural beauty of the area but have also created serious safety risks for tourists and local residents. Overcrowding, poor waste management, and unsafe buildings have been major concerns in recent years.

The chief minister also ordered action against encroachments on public land, roads, and green areas. Officials said operations would be carried out in phases to remove illegal structures while ensuring that lawful businesses and residents are not unfairly affected. Clear guidelines will be enforced to regulate tourism-related activities and improve overall urban planning in the hill station.

In addition, CM Maryam stressed the need for better coordination between local administration, tourism authorities, and environmental agencies. She directed them to ensure that all hotels and commercial units comply with safety, fire, and environmental standards. Measures are also expected to be taken to control traffic congestion and improve civic facilities in Murree.

The government says these steps are part of a broader plan to promote responsible tourism, protect natural resources, and restore Murree’s image as a safe and well-managed tourist destination. Further updates are expected as inspections and enforcement actions begin in the coming days.
