CM Maryam Nawaz Takes Strict Action Against Overpricing in Public Transport on Eid

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has taken strict action against transporters who are charging extra fares from passengers before Eid-ul-Fitr. She instructed district administrations to ensure that only fixed fares are charged.

To make things clear for travelers, she also ordered that fare lists be displayed at bus stands and that transport authorities closely monitor the situation.

In response to complaints, authorities launched a crackdown on overcharging transporters. As a result, 97 vehicles were fined, and penalties totaling Rs. 500,000 were imposed. Additionally, cases were registered against 10 individuals, including two drivers, for violating fare regulations.

To further protect passengers, Deputy Commissioner Syed Musa Raza led late-night operations to check fare violations. During these inspections, it was found that some transporters were charging Rs. 200 to Rs. 700 extra. The authorities took immediate action, ensuring that the overcharged amounts were refunded to passengers on the spot.

DC Lahore made it clear that passenger rights must be respected. He warned that transporters involved in overcharging or overcrowding vehicles would face serious legal consequences. He assured the public that efforts would continue to ensure a smooth, fair, and safe travel experience during Eid.

With Eid approaching, the Punjab government remains committed to making sure that travelers are not taken advantage of and that transport services operate according to the rules. Passengers are also encouraged to report any unfair fare hikes to the authorities.
