As the seventh day of the amnesty for settling the status of overstayers, launched by the UAE on Sept.1, 2024, draws to a close, the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai (GDRFA) has announced significant turn out.
The huge turn out demonstrates the UAE’s commitment to its humanitarian role, promote community safety and improve the quality of life. The high level of participation and fruitful collaboration between government entities and partners serve to substantiate these claims.
Numbers & Achievements
The total number of applications received by the GDRFA during the initial seven-day period reached 19,784. Of these, 98.96 per cent were processed within 48 hours, reflecting the efficiency of the work teams and digital services employed.
Furthermore, 90 per cent of applications were submitted through digital platforms.
Turnout to the centres
The settlement centre in Al Aweer, Dubai saw a remarkable influx of customers during the initial seven-day period, with over 2,393 individuals visiting the centre, representing 10.15% of the total applications received in the Emirate of Dubai.
A total of 60 service counters were established at the Al Aweer Service Centre with the objective of receiving and expediting the processing of requests, thereby reducing congestion. Furthermore, service requests were submitted through 86 Amer centres and digital platforms.
Cooperation with Consulates
In collaboration with a group of foreign consulates in Dubai, joint teams have been constituted with the objective of communicating with different communities and providing assistance in the rectification of the status of residents of different nationalities.
A considerable number of consulates have provided invaluable assistance to the humanitarian initiative, organising awareness sessions and offering guidance in multiple languages to facilitate individuals’ understanding of how to benefit from the initiative.
“The campaign’s initial outcomes are a source of pride. They reflect a dedication to providing optimal services to Dubai residents and ensuring a secure and stable living environment. Our collaboration with the government, private sector, consulates, and robust media support has facilitated accelerated progress and tangible outcomes in a relatively short period of time,” Major General Salah Al-Qamzi, Assistant Director General for the Follow-up of Violators and Foreigners Sector, said.
Furthermore, he stated that the objective of the GDRFA is to persist in offering assistance to all those who require it and to guarantee that all groups benefit from this initiative in a timely manner.
In addition, GDRFA confirmed its commitment to the provision of comprehensive services with the objective of facilitating the rectification of the status of overstayers, whilst simultaneously enhancing community safety through the implementation of innovative strategies and the establishment of effective partnerships with a range of external entities.
