Electricity Prices Likely to Drop by Rs.12 Per Unit

Federal Minister for Energy, Awais Leghari, announced that electricity prices in Pakistan could drop by Rs10 to Rs12 per unit. This is due to ongoing discussions with the IMF and Independent Power Producers (IPPs). The talks have already saved the country Rs1,100 billion, allowing for lower electricity tariffs for consumers.

Leghari also addressed the issue of K-Electric’s multi-year tariff and stressed that it should be reduced. Efforts to prevent electricity theft in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa are also continuing.

Additionally, a recent decision by Nepra has reduced tariffs by up to 75 paisa per unit for Distribution Companies (DISCOs) and K-Electric, effective from January 2025.

These steps are expected to bring down electricity costs and benefit consumers across Pakistan.
