Get Ready Karachiites! Heavy Rain Expected to Hit City Today

Karachi enjoyed pleasant weather on Monday as light showers and cool winds swept across different parts of the city. Many residents welcomed the change, especially after weeks of hot and humid conditions. The light rain brought a refreshing atmosphere, while the cool breeze added to the comfort.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD), this rainy spell is likely to continue until September 10. However, the department has warned that the intensity will increase in the coming days. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected on September 9 and 10, which could affect the normal routine of the city.

The weather change is due to a low-pressure system that has developed in India. This system is pushing strong monsoon winds into Sindh and Punjab, leading to widespread rainfall. Cities across Sindh, including Hyderabad, Sukkur, Larkana, and Nawabshah, are also expected to receive significant rain.

While the showers may bring relief from the heat, they also raise serious concerns about urban flooding. Karachi, in particular, is vulnerable as its drainage system often struggles to cope with heavy downpours. Low-lying areas could face waterlogging, causing difficulties for residents, commuters, and businesses.

Authorities are urging citizens to remain cautious and prepared during this period of unstable weather. People living in flood-prone areas have been advised to take safety measures and avoid unnecessary movement when heavy rain begins.

For now, Karachiites are enjoying the pleasant change in weather, but the coming days may test the city’s readiness to handle the challenges of heavy monsoon rains.
