The Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) of Pakistan’s federal cabinet has approved a grant of Rs 1.8 billion to overhaul the engines of two VVIP aircraft used by high-level officials.

These planes are designated for official duties by President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. This decision was made during a meeting led by the Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue, Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb, who chaired the session.

The ECC’s meeting involved reviewing several proposals, including the approval of this significant grant for the Ministry of Defence to service the aircraft engines. An official statement confirmed that the Ministry of Defence would receive the funds necessary to ensure the two aircraft remain operational and in top condition for the officials’ duties.

In addition to the aircraft engine overhauls, the ECC also considered a proposal from the Ministry of National Food Security & Research. This proposal focused on distributing wheat stocks, both domestic and imported, to address shortages in areas with limited wheat supply during the 2024-25 food year. The Pakistan Agricultural Storage and Services Corporation (PASSCO) will play a key role in managing this wheat distribution to ensure regions in need receive adequate supplies.

These decisions reflect the ECC’s ongoing efforts to ensure critical needs, such as transportation for government officials and food security in wheat-deficient areas, are prioritized and adequately funded.
