Govt Plans 24,000 Phone Purchase for Fuel Relief App

The Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunication in Pakistan is preparing to procure around 24,000 mobile phones as part of a new digital petrol subsidy initiative. This move is aimed at supporting the rollout of a dedicated mobile application that will manage fuel distribution through a voucher-based system.

According to available information, all devices will be PTA-approved to ensure compliance with national regulations. These smartphones will be deployed at petrol pumps across the country, where they will be used to facilitate real-time verification and processing of subsidized fuel transactions.

The Ministry is leading the overall development and implementation of the system, while oil marketing companies will be responsible for distributing and managing the devices at their respective fuel stations. This collaboration is expected to streamline operations and ensure smooth execution at the ground level.

The mobile application itself is currently in its final stages of testing. Once launched, it is expected to allow eligible users to access subsidized fuel quotas through a secure and transparent digital platform. By digitizing the process, the government aims to minimize leakages, reduce misuse, and enhance accountability within the subsidy framework.

This initiative reflects a broader effort to integrate technology into public service delivery, particularly in sectors where transparency and efficiency are critical. The introduction of a digital voucher system for fuel subsidies could play a key role in improving distribution mechanisms and ensuring that benefits reach the intended recipients more effectively.
