Heavy Rainfall, Hailstorms Expected in Islamabad, Parts of Punjab within 12 Hours

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a serious weather warning for Islamabad and many parts of Punjab, expecting dangerous weather conditions in the next 12 hours. This comes after a recent hailstorm that already caused heavy damage in Islamabad and areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

According to the National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC), a new weather system from the west will bring heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, strong winds, and more hailstorms to different regions. The areas most likely to be affected include the Pothohar region (Islamabad, Rawalpindi), upper Punjab (Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum), and central Punjab (Lahore, Faisalabad, Sargodha).

The NDMA has warned that these weather conditions may lead to trees being uprooted, power breakdowns, and damage to weak buildings and vehicles. Crops that are still standing in fields could also be harmed by hail. In addition, flash floods are expected in certain areas of KP, especially in Dir, Swat, and Chitral, between April 18 and 20 due to increased water flow.

People living in or traveling to the affected areas are strongly advised to stay updated with the latest weather information and to follow the instructions from local authorities. Tourists planning visits to these regions should also take extra care and possibly postpone their trips.

The NDMA is monitoring the situation closely and is prepared to respond to emergencies. Citizens are encouraged to take preventive measures, stay indoors during storms, and secure loose objects around their homes. Everyone is urged to act responsibly to ensure their safety and the safety of others during this period of severe weather.
