ICC Board Votes to Replace Bangladesh if they Don’t Travel to India

The International Cricket Council (ICC) has warned that Bangladesh may lose their place in the 2026 T20 World Cup if they refuse to travel to India to play their scheduled matches. This warning was issued after an ICC Board meeting in which most members voted in favor of appointing a replacement team if Bangladesh does not agree to participate.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has been given one final day to clearly confirm whether the team will travel to India. The ICC has made it clear that a decision is needed urgently so tournament preparations are not affected. If Bangladesh maintains its refusal, the ICC is expected to move ahead with a replacement.

In that situation, Scotland is likely to take Bangladesh’s place in Group C of the tournament. Scotland did not originally qualify for the World Cup, as they finished behind the Netherlands, Italy, and Jersey during the European qualifying event. However, due to the current uncertainty, Scotland now stands as the leading option to step in if a vacancy opens.

The ICC’s main concern is to ensure that the tournament schedule runs smoothly and that all teams are willing to fulfill their commitments. Officials believe that confirming participation early is important for planning travel, venues, broadcasting, and security arrangements.

This development has created uncertainty around Bangladesh’s participation and has drawn attention from cricket fans worldwide, as any last-minute change could significantly affect the group dynamics and competition in the 2026 T20 World Cup.
