Iranian state media are reporting that Mansoureh Khojasteh Bagherzadeh, the wife of the country’s late Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has died after being injured during recent military strikes attributed to the United States and Israel.
The news came amid wide regional conflict and follow‑up reports of heavy bombardment on major Iranian cities and military sites.
According to reports by IRIB and Tasneem News Agency, Khojasteh Bagherzadeh was critically wounded on February 28 when missiles struck areas connected to Iran’s leadership complex in Tehran. It was reported that she went into a coma before dying on March 2 from her wounds.
Mansoureh Khojasteh Bagherzadeh was born in Mashhad and was married to Ayatollah Khamenei for decades. She largely remained out of the public spotlight, living privately while accompanying the supreme leader through his long tenure from 1989 until his death. Together, they had six children, some of whom also reportedly died in the same strikes.
Tehran has declared extended periods of public mourning, and demonstrations have taken place in major cities. Government leaders have condemned the strikes as unjust and vowed support for grieving families and for the nation’s defence.
This reported loss adds to what Iranian officials describe as significant sacrifice among the country’s leadership and families as conflict continues to escalate across the region.
