“Islamabad” Pakistan’s First Cashless City? Digital Payments Now Expanded to Hotels, Petrol Pumps, and Restaurants

Islamabad is taking a big step toward becoming Pakistan’s first fully cashless city. The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has announced that digital payment options will now be accepted in a wider range of places, including hotels, restaurants, petrol pumps, and guest houses.

Until now, QR code-based payments were mainly available in weekly markets, metro buses, and government centers. With the new expansion, people can now pay for food, fuel, and hotel stays through their phones, instead of using cash. This makes daily transactions easier, safer, and more efficient.

Banks across the city are also launching awareness campaigns to educate people about the benefits of going cashless. They are teaching citizens how to use mobile apps and QR codes for payments. Many merchants are joining too, some are offering small discounts or bonuses to customers who pay digitally, encouraging adoption.

Officials believe this shift will improve public convenience, reduce the risk of carrying cash, and help businesses manage payments transparently.

For customers, it means less worry about losing money, easier budgeting, and faster service. For businesses, digital payments can boost trust and help keep better records.

Islamabad’s push toward being a cashless city reflects a broader global trend. With technology and smart planning, it could set a strong example for other cities in Pakistan.

The move also shows that Pakistan is taking serious steps toward digitization, modern finance, and improved public services.

If the plan continues successfully, residents and visitors will soon enjoy a smoother and safer payment experience across Islamabad, a sign of a modern, forward-looking capital city.
