Justice Ali Baqar Najafi Takes Oath as Judge of the Supreme Court of Pakistan

Justice Ali Baqar Najafi has officially joined the Supreme Court of Pakistan. He was sworn in as a Supreme Court judge on April 16, 2025, after being nominated by the Judicial Commission of Pakistan and approved by President Asif Ali Zardari.

Justice Najafi brings with him a long and respected career in law. Before this new role, he served as a judge at the Lahore High Court, where he handled more than 37,000 cases. He has a strong background in constitutional, civil, and international law, and has worked on a wide range of legal matters over the years.

One of his most well-known contributions was leading the judicial inquiry into the 2014 Model Town incident—a high-profile case that received national attention. His experience and deep understanding of the legal system have earned him recognition and respect in the legal community.

Justice Najafi first became a judge at the Lahore High Court in 2012. Over the years, he has built a strong reputation for fairness, deep legal knowledge, and dedication to justice. He has also handled more than 1,000 cases in his legal career before becoming a judge, showing the depth of his experience in the courtroom.

His appointment to the Supreme Court is seen as a positive step for the country’s judiciary. Legal experts believe his presence on the bench will strengthen the Supreme Court, especially because of his experience in handling complex and sensitive legal matters.

As Justice Najafi begins this new chapter, many hope he will continue to bring the same commitment to justice and fairness that has marked his career so far. His elevation is being welcomed by both the legal community and the public.
