March, April fuel cargoes secured as govt reviews supply stability

The government on Tuesday said petroleum supplies remain stable, with fuel cargoes for March and April largely secured, as it monitors global energy market volatility amid evolving geopolitical conditions.

This was stated during a meeting of the overseeing petrol prices held in Islamabad under Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, according to a press release issued by the Finance Division.

The committee reviewed the national energy supply outlook and noted that inventories of crude oil and refined petroleum products remain at comfortable levels.

Supply chains — from import terminals to refineries, storage facilities, and retail outlets — were reported to be operating smoothly, ensuring uninterrupted availability across the country.

Officials said additional shipments are planned to further strengthen supply buffers, while refineries continue to operate at regular production levels with efforts to maintain optimal throughput.

The meeting also assessed global oil and gas market trends, highlighting price volatility and its potential implications for domestic markets. Authorities are evaluating the gap between international and local prices to enable timely policy adjustments.

Participants emphasized maintaining operational readiness across the energy chain and directed refineries to sustain optimal production to support supply stability.

The committee also reviewed government-to-government engagements aimed at diversifying supply sources and improving logistics, including storage and transshipment arrangements.

Aurangzeb said proactive planning and coordination have helped Pakistan maintain stable energy supplies despite global uncertainties, directing continued vigilance on international developments and supply dynamics.

He reiterated that ensuring uninterrupted availability of petroleum products remains the government’s top priority.

The meeting was attended by senior officials and ministers, including Power Minister Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, National Food Security Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain, Maritime Affairs Minister Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhary, and Minister of State for Finance Bilal Azhar Kayani.
