Martyred PalestinianJournalist Maryam Abu Daqa Nominated for 2025 World Press Freedom Heroes Award

Seven courageous journalists have been nominated for the 2025 World Press Freedom Heroes Award by the International Press Institute (IPI). Among them is Maryam Abu Daqa, a Palestinian journalist who tragically lost her life while reporting from the frontlines in Gaza.

Her nomination is seen as a global recognition of the courage and sacrifices made by Palestinian journalists who continue to report under life-threatening conditions.

Maryam Abu Daqa’s work represented truth, resilience, and the fearless spirit of journalism. Despite the risks, she continued to share the stories of those affected by war and injustice, inspiring journalists around the world to remain committed to honesty and integrity.

The International Press Institute’s annual award honors reporters who show exceptional courage and commitment in defending press freedom.

The 2025 ceremony holds special meaning as it coincides with the IPI’s 75th anniversary, marking decades of support for free and independent media worldwide.

This year’s nominees include journalists from different regions, many of whom have faced threats, censorship, and violence while performing their duty to inform the public.

Their recognition highlights the importance of protecting journalists and upholding the right to free expression in all societies.

The award ceremony will take place on October 24, 2025, in Vienna, Austria, bringing together journalists, media professionals, and advocates for press freedom.

Maryam’s nomination stands as a lasting tribute to her bravery and dedication, as well as a reminder of the ongoing struggle for truth and justice faced by Palestinian journalists and media workers everywhere.
