Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has ordered the installation of colored dustbins across the province to improve waste management and promote cleaner public spaces. This new system aims to make recycling easier and help people separate different types of waste properly.
Under this plan, authorities will place the bins in markets, shopping malls, government offices, commercial areas, and educational institutions. The goal is to ensure that waste segregation becomes a regular habit for citizens in both urban and rural areas.
Each dustbin color has a specific purpose. Yellow bins will be used for paper items and packaging materials. Green bins will collect glass and laboratory waste. Purple bins will be designated for food scraps and other organic waste.
Red bins will be used for metal items, while orange bins will be set aside for plastics. By separating waste at the source, the government hopes to reduce landfill pressure and encourage recycling.
Officials say that this color-coded system will not only help keep public places clean but also support a more organized waste-disposal process. It will make it easier for waste-management teams to collect, transport, and recycle materials properly.
The initiative is part of a broader effort by the Punjab government to create a cleaner and healthier environment. Public awareness campaigns are expected to follow, encouraging people to use the correct bins and understand the importance of recycling.
