No More BackBenchers! Indian School Adopt New Classroom Seating Style

Several schools in Kerala, India, are now trying out a new way of arranging their classrooms by using a semi-circular seating style instead of the usual straight rows of desks.

In this new setup, the teacher stands or sits in the middle while the students sit in a curved formation around them. This design helps every student see the teacher clearly and makes it easier for everyone to interact and take part in lessons.

The main idea behind this change is to create an equal learning space for all students. By removing the traditional row system, schools hope to end the divide between students who sit at the front and those who stay at the back.

Teachers believe that when everyone is equally close and visible, students feel more included and confident to speak up or ask questions.

So far, at least six schools in Kerala have started using this new seating arrangement, and many other schools in different parts of India are also thinking about doing the same. Teachers and education experts have shared positive feedback about how this change is helping students participate more in classroom discussions and activities.

Many students also say they feel more comfortable and involved in the lessons now. Schools hope this style of seating will improve how students learn and work together.

Education leaders see this as a step forward in creating classrooms that focus on equal learning chances for everyone and better communication between teachers and students.
