Pakistan Appoints ISI Chief Lt. Gen. Asim Malik as National Security Advisor

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has appointed Lieutenant General Asim Malik as the new National Security Adviser (NSA) of Pakistan. He is currently serving as the Director General of the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and will now hold both positions at the same time. The official notification of this decision was issued on April 29.

This important appointment shows the government’s strong trust in Lt Gen Asim Malik’s abilities. At a time when Pakistan is facing regional and internal security challenges, his dual role is expected to improve coordination between the country’s top intelligence agency and the national security office.

Having one person manage both responsibilities could help in making faster and better decisions regarding national security. It also means the Prime Minister and the security departments will work more closely on key issues, including regional peace, counterterrorism efforts, and foreign policy matters that affect Pakistan’s safety.

Lt Gen Asim Malik has a solid background in intelligence and military operations, making him a fitting choice for this sensitive role. His leadership in the ISI has already played a key part in handling several security-related situations.

Experts believe that this move will strengthen Pakistan’s overall security framework. In today’s fast-changing global environment, where regional tensions and cross-border threats are increasing, such decisions are seen as necessary to keep the country prepared and stable.

This dual role also sends a clear message to allies and adversaries alike that Pakistan is focusing on tighter control and more unified efforts in the field of national security.
