Pakistan Railways to Launch High-Speed Bullet Train Between Lahore and Karachi by 2030

Pakistan Railways has shared plans to launch the country’s first high-speed bullet train between Karachi and Lahore by the year 2030. This ambitious project is part of the $6.8 billion Main Line-1 (ML-1) upgrade under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

At present, a journey from Karachi to Lahore by train can take almost 20 hours. With the bullet train, this travel time will be cut down to just five hours, making it a fast and reliable option for passengers.

The train is being designed to run at a speed of up to 250 km/h, covering a distance of 1,215 kilometers. On its way, it will stop at major cities including Hyderabad, Multan, and Sahiwal, giving more people access to high-speed rail services.

The project is not only about faster travel. Authorities have highlighted that the bullet train will also play a big role in supporting Pakistan’s economy. It is expected to create new job opportunities during both construction and operation.

The train will help improve trade links between major cities, encourage businesses to expand, and make transportation more efficient.

Another important benefit will be in freight movement. By increasing the rail share of goods transport, the project will help reduce the heavy dependence on road transport.

This will not only lower fuel consumption but also cut down on fuel imports, saving foreign exchange and reducing environmental impact.

Overall, the Karachi-Lahore bullet train is being seen as a transformative step for Pakistan’s railway system, promising speed, growth, and new opportunities for the country.
