Pakistan Sends First Ever Direct Cargo Vessel to Bangladesh

The first cargo vessel traveling directly from Karachi Port in Pakistan arrived at Chittagong Port in Bangladesh on Wednesday. This voyage establishes a direct maritime trade route between Pakistan and Bangladesh, opening new possibilities for trade and cooperation.

The ship, with a capacity to carry 2,300 TEUs (Twenty-Foot Equivalent Units), brought a variety of goods, highlighting the growing interest and demand for direct trade links between the two countries. This milestone reflects a significant step forward for both nations as they aim to strengthen their economic relationship and improve regional connectivity.

Syed Ahmed Maroof, Pakistan’s High Commissioner to Bangladesh, celebrated this achievement, describing it as a promising move toward boosting bilateral trade. He emphasized that direct shipping between Pakistan and Bangladesh can greatly benefit both economies, making trade easier, faster, and more efficient.

Maroof also suggested launching regular direct shipping services to support continuous trade and foster stronger business connections. According to him, consistent shipping links could help promote not only business but also broader economic and social ties, benefiting industries and communities in both countries.

The arrival of this vessel represents a meaningful development in Pakistan-Bangladesh relations, offering a new foundation for future trade and cooperation. The potential for enhanced trade routes could pave the way for stronger ties across various sectors, allowing both countries to build a more connected and mutually beneficial partnership.
