Pakistan will officially mark 2026 as the “Year of Quaid-i-Azam” to honor the 150th birth anniversary of the country’s founder, Mohammad Ali Jinnah, with respectful and dignified celebrations across the nation. This announcement was made by a federal minister on Monday.

The decision was shared by Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives, Ahsan Iqbal, while he was chairing a meeting of the National Committee. During the meeting, members discussed various ideas and proposals for national-level events to commemorate Quaid-i-Azam’s life, leadership, and services to the country.

The committee also reviewed suggested activities to mark the 150th birth anniversary of Allama Muhammad Iqbal, the renowned poet, philosopher, and thinker whose ideas played a key role in the creation of Pakistan.

Speaking at the meeting, Ahsan Iqbal emphasized the importance of celebrating these historic milestones in a meaningful way that reflects the values and vision of Pakistan’s founding leaders. He said such commemorations should inspire unity, patriotism, and a renewed commitment to the principles on which the country was built.

To move the process forward, the minister announced the formation of a sub-committee. This sub-committee will be responsible for finalizing the detailed programme of events, activities, and initiatives planned for the year-long celebrations. It has been directed to complete its work and present its recommendations within five days, after which further decisions will be taken at the national level.
