Pakistan to Witness Rare ‘Blood Moon’ on 7 to 8 September

Pakistan is set to experience a rare and stunning celestial sight on the night of September 7–8, as a total lunar eclipse often called a Blood Moon will be visible across the country.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has confirmed that the eclipse will start at 8:28 pm on September 7. The total phase, when the moon takes on its striking reddish glow, will begin at 10:31 pm and reach its peak at 11:12 pm.

The total eclipse will end at 11:53 pm, while the entire event will officially conclude at 1:55 am on September 8.

This spectacular event is not limited to Pakistan. The Blood Moon will also be visible in large parts of Asia, Europe, Africa, Australia, and the Americas, giving millions of people around the world the chance to witness one of nature’s most breathtaking displays.

The reddish color of the moon during a total lunar eclipse occurs when sunlight passes through Earth’s atmosphere.

The atmosphere scatters shorter wavelengths of light, like blue, while allowing red and orange hues to bend around the Earth and reflect onto the moon’s surface. This creates the glowing effect that fascinates skywatchers and astronomers alike.

For many, lunar eclipses hold cultural and symbolic significance, while for others they are an opportunity to admire the wonders of space. The upcoming eclipse is expected to attract large numbers of enthusiasts, with many already preparing telescopes and cameras to capture the moment.

With clear skies, Pakistanis will have a front-row seat to one of the most memorable astronomical events of 2025.
