Rain and Storm Alert! Cyclone ‘Shakti’ Just 360 KM Away from Karachi

Cyclone Shakti, which developed in the northeast Arabian Sea, is steadily moving toward Pakistan’s southern coastline. According to the latest updates, the storm is now located about 360 kilometers south of Karachi and is gaining strength as it approaches.

Initially a deep depression, the system has intensified into a full cyclonic storm. Weather experts warn that it could become even stronger within the next 24 hours, depending on sea temperatures and wind patterns. Authorities are closely monitoring its movement to assess the possible impact on coastal areas of Sindh and Balochistan.

The cyclone is expected to bring scattered rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds to different regions. Light to moderate rainfall is likely in southern Sindh and parts of Balochistan, while Karachi may experience isolated showers. Although heavy downpours are not predicted immediately, the storm’s trajectory could still cause disruptions in low-lying areas.

Sea conditions near Sindh’s coast are reported to be very rough, with high waves and dangerous currents. Winds near the center of the storm could reach speeds of up to 125 kilometers per hour, posing a serious risk for small boats and fishing vessels.

Because of these hazardous conditions, fishermen have been strongly advised not to venture into the sea until October 5. Coastal residents are also being urged to stay alert for further advisories and follow instructions from local authorities.

Cyclone Shakti serves as a reminder of the seasonal weather risks in the Arabian Sea. Preparedness and caution remain key to minimizing risks for communities living along Pakistan’s southern coast.
