Rebuttal – Incorrect news circulating regarding cyberattack on BOP

During routine monitoring, the Bank identified certain irregular Credit Card transactions and immediately initiated an internal review. The review established that the transactions arose due to a temporary technical glitch in the credit card system which enabled a certain number of Banks ’existing customers to execute un-authorized transactions.

These customers, as reported in a section of media, were not specific to any particular government scheme or program, including the Asaan Karobar Card, and impacted a specific set of credit card holders of the bank in general.

The Bank would like to clarify that this technical issue was not the result of any cyber-attack, and the system gap identified has since been fully rectified, and the system update on Friday/ 2nd January 2026 has nothing to do with this particular credit card issue either.

Recovery actions have been initiated in line with the Bank’s standard procedures, and while most customers have come forward and starting paying over-limit amounts, all necessary remedial measures are being implemented.

Claims circulating regarding the quantum of the amount involved are highly speculative, exaggerated and incorrect. The situation remains fully manageable for the Bank.

Impacted credit card holders have already been contacted and informed by the Bank. Customers who have not been approached by the Bank remain unaffected and have no cause for concern.

Also, we would like to mention that customers should beware of any unauthorized advances to them and only ensure engagement with the authorized officer(s) of the Bank after due verification of the genuineness of the person(s) approaching them. Kindly do not entertain anyone who’s legitimacy is suspected in any manner.

For any further information, clarification feel free to contact BOP helpline (+92-42-111-267-200).

This statement has been issued as part of the campaign of the Bank in the larger public interest to create necessary awareness about the cyber fraudulent activities rampant these days.
